Increased staffing levels linked to patient experience

A new study in The New England Journal of Medicine based on the HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) looked at the perceptions of patients’ experiences at hospitals and found that the characteristics of hospitals that cause high nurse staffing levels may also be the same elements associated with good patient experiences.

What this means for you as a hospital administrator is that hospitals should be able to provide both high quality clinical care and an excellent patient experience at the same time, by focusing on those elements. Which you can find discussed here: Patients’ Perception of Hospital Care in the United States.
