Supreme Court Upholds Affordable Care Act Subsidies

On Thursday, June 25, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court voted 6-3 in the highly anticipated King v. Burwell decision.

According to Healthcare Finance News, the ruling means that “more than six million residents in the 34 states with federal exchanges can keep their tax subsidies for healthcare insurance under the Affordable Care Act.”

The article quotes several of the justices as well as a statement made by a “relieved” American Medical Association, who wrote in that statement: “With this case now behind us, we hope our country can move forward and continue strengthening our nation’s health care system.”
