Medical Solutions Teams Up with Planet Water Foundation for World Water Day 2018

Did you know that one in eight people do not have access to safe, clean drinking water? Even more astonishing, roughly half of the Earth’s hospital beds are occupied by people with preventable waterborne diseases, according to the World Health Organization.

These alarming stats are why Medical Solutions will once again partner with Planet Water Foundation’s Project 24 to combat global water poverty. Project 24 is Planet Water Foundation’s annual initiative to deliver clean water to 24 needy communities in 24 hours on World Water Day.

As a part of this initiative and in celebration of World Water Day, on Thursday, March 22nd 2018, Medical Solutions will sponsor the installation of a water filtration tower in a small village in the Philippines. Medical Solutions’ water tower will help the people of Buntog, where access to clean, safe drinking water is severely limited. In fact, the nearest purified water station is roughly 12 km or 7.4 miles away. To complicate matters, most families in this rural community cannot afford to buy purified water. As a result, they must rely on a nearby deep well for their daily water needs.

According to one of Buntog’s elementary school teachers, it’s common knowledge that the deep well water is contaminated, but many have no other alternative.

“I reprimand my students if they drink it since it is not safe, but I still catch a lot of them drinking it because they couldn’t buy purified water,” Jobert said. “I am not surprised that there are many reports of amoebiasis and diarrhea—not just among the children but adults as well.”

Fortunately, when Planet Water Foundation’s team installs the Medical Solutions-sponsored water tower in Buntog next week, stories like this will be a thing of the past for this village of 2,000 people. The Planet Water Foundation team will also offer educational classes to the entire village about water health and hygiene in an effort to further prevent waterborne diseases.

Like our Hospital Clients and Travel Nurses, our team at Medical Solutions understands just how critical access to clean, safe water is when it comes to treating and preventing disease. For this very reason, Medical Solutions has helped thousands of people in villages just like Buntog through Planet Water Foundation for several years. We will proudly continue to support this worthy cause on behalf of our Hospital Clients and Travel Nurses, who are committed to enhancing public health in their own communities.
